VHI Celebrates the MGH Laryngeal Surgery Fellowship Program
On May 4th, during the Combined Otolaryngology Sections Meeting conference in Boston, the Voice Health Institute (VHI) hosted a special dinner to celebrate and reunite graduates of the Mass General Hospital (MGH), Harvard-affiliated Laryngeal Surgery Fellowship Program at the MGH Voice Center. Under the exceptional direction of Drs. Steven Zeitels and Robert Hillman, and with funding from the VHI, more than 30 clinical and research fellows have completed the program and gone on to lead, staff and teach at some of the best hospitals and universities in the U.S. and abroad.
John Lichtenstein, President of the VHI Board of Directors, welcomed attendees from the MGH including speech-language pathologists and voice scientists from the Voice Center, administrators from the MGH Department of Surgery in addition to 21 former fellows from all over the country, as well as Israel, Mexico and Japan. The significance of the extraordinary gathering was unmistakable and the atmosphere was that of a warm reunion with many laughs, shared memories and deepest appreciation for mentors, Dr. Zeitels and Dr. Hillman. Dr. Zeitels gave a heartfelt speech about the many years of collaboration of the VHI, MGH and Harvard Medical School and encouraged his trainees to stay connected, continue to collaborate together and strive to advance state-of-the-art care for their patients.
On behalf of the Board members present (Tomé Andrade, Roger Egan, Scott Solombrino), Mr. Lichtenstein expressed gratitude to all attendees for their important work toward improving the standard of care for patients with voice and upper airway conditions.
Thank you to our donors and the VHI community for your wonderful support that allows VHI to fund the education of voice surgeons in advanced surgical techniques that they will then teach to their own trainees and colleagues. We could not do this without your support!
